It speaks to the power of this system that a measly 6HP assassin is an important adversary, even now. Not because of the harm he could deal to the PCs, but because of how vital their connections and good standing to the greater world are. Beautiful writing.
100%. I've had a ton of success in this system setting up fights where the primary objective is not to kill the enemy, but to prevent them from doing something bad. IMO it's the key reason these fights feel more compelling than tactical combat-style D&D fights.
Voted for calm, mostly because that matches with the building trust goal. I thought the risk of revealing something a little nebulous in the moment, but then I’m not an ancient sorcerer!
This is a good note/point of feedback, thank you -- I was wondering if the various machinations of Vahid and Cirl and Stormcatcher are starting to get a little bit fuzzy, and was considering doing a "Hey, what is going on with Vahid, Cirl, Stormcatcher, the Thousand-Year Storm, etc.," post and this may be the spark that lights that fire under my butt.
