I really appreciate the thought and care that you've put into discussing large scale battles within the pbta system. Looking forward to how this plays out.

I went with a surprise attack. Letting their enemy choose the place and time of battle would be a big advantage to give them. No need for that.

I'm so happy your back in the world of Stonetop! It took me a while to catch up and, just as I got to where you left off, you've restarted anew! Perfect timing.

This is my first time getting to have a vote in what's to come! I went with an elite attack. I pictured it being more along the lines of a scouting mission that could turn into an optimistic attack if they can take advantage of the element of surprise.

On a more general note, your explanation of your GMing, and getting to see PbtA has elevated my DMing massively. I run a D&D game and I'm now adjudicating any roll as if it were a PbtA move, with similar consequences for failed rolls. It's made my game so much more dynamic and active. Thank you.

That's awesome to hear -- talking about GMing and helping people elevate their home games is definitely one of the best parts of writing PTFO. If the GM principles of PbtA are helping you out, have you shared the player principles with your players? We did a medium-deep dive on them back in Session 10: https://ptfo.substack.com/p/interlude-a-somewhat-rash-decision

I'm holding out. We're wrapping up the current story arc in D&D, then... I've convinced my players to give Stonetop a try :) It feels like the perfect opportunity to discuss the player principles then.

Reading through the Stonetop books I'm feeling an excitement to play in it's world I've never had with D&D. We'll see how the die heardy D&D fans in the group take to it!

Great to see this back.

I also find the thoughts regarding battles interesting, as in the past I have knocked together battle rules for rpgs from the points of view of PC army leadership or individual unit command.

That said, I'm happy to see this vote go either way, really.
