I voted for Pad to take Brogan along, and he will agonize about it all the way. If the player asks for scenery to chew, the GM gets out their carpentry tools and builds a tasty set.
Ha, I didn't even think about that -- certainly Brogan coming along would give lots of opportunities for big feelings. And imagine if he died! Pad might never forgive himself.
“If we intend to brave Odo’s lair, we should pick those we bring carefully. Those with strong wills and with no love for needless cruelty.”
I think this is fine, because it's in-universe true. It's elegant - that's how the curse works, it's how cutthroat recruitment works, etc. It lines up nicely.
As for this week's poll, let's take a stroll down to ol' Pad's character sheet, and check out his instinct... **Caution: To keep everyone safe, to agonize over decisions**. There are a few ways to slice that - if he's trying to keep *everyone* safe, that means putting the many ahead of the few, and likely sending the boy to die for the good of the delve, and ultimately Stonetop. Could be, but I think the most interesting sensical interpretation is that this is the culmination of Pad's mini recoking arc here - he feels partially responsible for how things went down last time they were in the delve, and partially responsible for the boy's fate. I think the interesting call would be for him to say "no, not again" and maybe seek another advantage to get the rats out of those tunnels.
Partially he can prove that he's not like Brennan - sacrificing people (potentially twice in one lifetime), and partially he can salvage something tangible and good from his past misdeeds.

Glad it came across OK -- I have played with some groups who would've rankled at such things. ;-)
Cads, the lot'of'em. 😌

That said, I think if there as a good time to set him down the path of changing his instinct, this is it.
> “Aye. I spent five winters living among them and another five fighting them blade to blade. Says I.”
TALK YOUR SHIT PAD!! 💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿
Pad has been a bit in the background and tentative lately, I was excited to give him a chance to be his old, hard self. :)
Yep it worked.
