My rationale: Carver could be doubting his place in the family, and the news about the ghost eventually coming through to kill him feels like a "last drop" situation. Maybe he won't have time to deal with it and fix it before the situation becomes dire, so if he can help his chosen family and in the meantime maybe start learning something that he could use to keep the situation at bay and in the future gain a new skillset? Why not.
It's not a choice that looks to the future, but honestly that feels right for him and for the setting in general.
That makes sense -- I'm excited about that direction because it lays the groundwork for Carver's relationship with Emma once the crew is back together. The other direction could potentially set Carver up as a more ambiguous figure who opposes the family down the line, but of course.
Looks like it's another unanimous one. I'm all for tunnels and fighting ghost. And I agree it feels the most logic. Being reminded so readily by Flint that he is not a Jessek. He will never be a Jessek and here is why, look at the curse hanging over your head Boy, you knew and you would let it fester til it killed all of you. That's the implication, I got. I feel like it was more a call out than anything and something none of them want to admit especially Aldo. They love carve.... but if it's carve or Emma. They all know the answer to that. I think this is less about them asking it of carver and more about carved knowing he needs to do this. If he is to honor his code, if he is to honor his family he ought to do right by them. If that means mastering this then so be it. I think this will be the first choice carve makes of his own volition without Aldo's nod. Similar to how Aldo needed to get his hands dirty. "For the Jessek Family to rise we all need to make sacrifices, and start wearing hats we may not be meant for yet, but we got each other, long as you put the damn hat on we can worry about making it fit together."- feels like something they all might be thinking but only Rian would be able to articulate so eloquently
I'm glad you dig it! I kinda wish I had the idea earlier so I could've seeded it -- I suppose I could always go back and add some moments where we learn Carver's troubled by dreams of his past violence, but generally I just like to roll forward. ;-)
