New here. Binged the whole thing a couple days ago, was waiting for this.

I also went with Maeve. I don't know if she is the right choice, after all Padrig used to run with Brennan and Maeve is a bit too into the rules and such (at least that's what I gathered) - so it might end up being a bit problematic later on. But that makes it all the more interesting.

Glad to have you here, Junebug! Maeve has a lot of momentum in the poll, so I think we're going to see how it unfolds. She does seem pretty bound by the law, at least from our first meeting with her, but she might be persuaded to look at the bigger picture if the party reveals some of Brennan's past.

Yea I agree I think Maeve might be a hard sell but that'll just make securing her loyalty more interesting. And Anwen might be well positioned to accomplish that given her character's moves and level-up choices.

"The three board the unsteady craft — Anwen at first tries to take Aela’s arm and guide her aboard, but she shrugs it off and nimbly makes her way to the prow, while Alastar takes up a long spruce pole and frees the boat from its moorings." great characterization like this even for "minor" characters goes a long way to making the world feel lived in.

"Anwen feels Aela’s hand on her arm, guiding her forward down the tunnel, and she mutters her thanks." now you're just showing off 😁.

Another great read, with some nice twists!

As far as the poll: I chose Maeve. I think Tymon isn't a very interesting choice for a jailbreak, I think that connection could be more interesting later on. The fenwalkers are interesting, but I feel they don't have much stake with the city. Also, Anwen already holds a debt, what reason would they have to support her in this, and create tension with Brennan's crew?

I feel Maeve has personal stake in this. Besides that, the tension between the Brennan's crew and old Guards seem to be increasing, making this a nice moment to have it escalate, with a little prod from the three main characters. Just my two cents.

Nice! Thanks for reading. I think I agree about Tymon -- if he was chosen, we'd likely have to decide he had some smuggler contacts that might know about the flooded tunnels beneath Marshedge, which then might allow the PCs to sneak their way into the cloaca, but it's a longer walk given only what's in the text right now. Re: Aela, I think the thread that Anwen could grab was when she said "I suppose that makes you my niece." From that seed, you could posit enough family feeling to at least get her to listen, and then if they tell some dark tales about Brennan and his past (which Ozbeg could help with), it's possible they could win her over.

I'm excited about doing more with Maeve, though (and that does seem to be the way the poll is trending) -- She's by far the most grounded in the town of Marshedge, and she could be a fun long-term ally in the war (whether cold or hot) with Brennan. They had very little interaction with her, though, so we'll have to figure out how they make a strong impression to put them in a good position to trigger the Persuade move. Let me know if you have any thoughts. :)

Totally agree that this is the most interesting option. Bring down Brennan from within the ranks!

I also voted for Maeve and I think you articulated the best reasoning - that, among the three choices, Maeve seems most personally invested. When I was thinking about my vote I thought that Tymon seemed less plausible for the characters to choose since it's a high urgency situation and he doesn't have a super clear connection to a solution other than "can we persuade him to throw money at this problem." Maeve's role in Brennan's crew and her sympathy to Pad seems like she'd be the first choice for our characters. From a meta perspective I agree Tymon seems like a much better thread to weave in down the road, particularly once the price of his friendship and the specifics of his network and assets is clearer.

Thanks bud! Anwen and Sianna were probably the most challenging scene to write to date -- and something I feel like would have been very hard indeed in a traditional RPG campaign. Appreciate the kind words. <3

What would Padrig do, if he were here?” he asks.

“I’m going in there to find him,” Anwen says.
